The content of my work follows a range from abstracted to more literal depictions of what I call Visual Poetry. In many ways it takes both the raw emotion of color, pattern, and markmaking and combines that with symbols of objects, man, and more abstract hieroglyphics that seem universal. I am a storyteller that leaves a lot of mystery and room for interpretation by the viewer. I want the work to give, both a “gut reaction”, and a more intellectual message to the viewer. Hopefully I am successful in this. I work with my eyes half closed and try to get to the raw emotion and pared down simplicity of the ideas. I fill sketchbooks with ideas and then condense these thoughts into final paintings. My painting process is a balance of this and risk taking which gives it the raw energy to look alive.
